When doing a scan the Logged On Users column returns an error of Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.
Or if not that message I am getting The network path was not found.
Anybody else????

Hi, there is no bug in what you describing. When scanning for logged on users VNC Manager establishes connection to remote computer's registry using your logon credentials. In case if connection to the registry couldn't be established due to invalid logon credentials you see "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation" message. In case if computers is down or its registry cannot be accessed remotely, you will get "The network path was not found" error. Starting with v4.0.3.0 build, “Show Logged On Users” dialog (Ctrl+G shortcut) allows to specify different logon credentials. We are also considering adding support for this feature to registered computers status updater.

I've spoken to SmartCode about this issue before, but I have to ask again:
As per the original poster above, and now with version 4.0.10, I still cannot get logged on users to work, even with the "Run As" feature in the Show Logged on Users" dialog box. I always get the "attempted to perform an unauthorized operation" error.
I was told that this feature will never work, even using "Run As", as long as I am not in the same domain or workgroup as the computers I am accessing. The problem for us is that we have several workgroups, and one domain, that we manage.
We've already purchased VNC Manager, and I think it's a great program, but this is a real issue for us.
Is there any way, or will there ever be any way, to determine the logged in users for computers not in the VNC Manager's workgroup or domain?
Thanks.
Bret

Bret, let me explain in more technical details why it's not possible to fetch logged on users from a computer in domain. So you could understand in more details the nature of this problem. In order to fetch logged on users we must connect to the registry of a remote computer. There are two options: WMI and native Win32 API registry methods.- WMI allows to connect to any computer in any domain. And it would be perfect for such task, BUT StdRegProv WMI registry provider, is missing one of the critical API methods needed for Show Logged On Users implementation, hence WMI cannot be used.
- WIN32 API Registry function, provide all required functionality, BUT as with most of the Win32 API you cannot provide alternative logon credentials when connecting to a remote computer. So when establishing a remote connection, Windows uses your current account credentials. We improved this situation by implementing Run As like support, BUT as wit native runas.exe command, it only works within same workgroup/domain.
So as much as we want this feature to work across domains, there is nothing much can be done about it. Of course if somebody is having an idea about how it could be done, please do let us know!

Fair enough.
I was hoping that perhaps version 4.0.10 had a magic fix for the problem.
I don't understand most of what you say, because I'm not a programmer, but I get the general idea. Sorry to bug you about the issue for the 2nd time.
If anyone else does have any suggestions, please respond.
Thanks again. We do like VNC Manager very much, especially for the price.
