I would like to see and exclude option for the logged on user check. A number of devices I monitor with VNC manager doesn't have logged on users that can be checked. Scanning would go a little bit faster on nodes where that information doesn't apply.

Active Directory Integration

It would be great to have the VNC manager use LDAP to scan a certain container/folder in AD at certain periods for changes in workstations. This way computer registration would be more automated. It would also be nice if the computer description (from AD) could be used for the "Name" of the workstation. Usually the Address and name are the same if Dynamic DNS is running in the environment.

I have a number of users who have larger screen resolutions that don't fit my monitor in VNC Mgr. Any time I access them, I need to select the Screen Stretch and then Mode to fit them to my screen. I'd like to suggest that this be made a settable option on the VNC Settings screen.

Possibility to move also groups not only registered computers

Hi,

it would be great if one could also move groups to other groups. as far as i know there is now only the possibility to move only the registered computers from one group to the other. but sometimes, in my case quite often it is necessary to relocate whole subtrees, which is quite a tedious task. Maybe i miss something, but i haven't found any such functionality.

So please either tell me, how i can do this, or otherwise it would be great if this would be possible in a near future version.

[v5.0] Quick Filter Location Change Request

Would you consider moving the quick filter box from the top right location to within / at the top of the navigation tree? I'm running on a 30" monitor and it's a bit of work to go back and forth / left and right when working with the filter.

It would make sense to have the filter atop the list of registered computers anyway as it filters based on the selected level in the tree.

many of our customers are using Terminalservers with Citrix Metaframe.

I've wondered if its planned to implement Citrix ICA Connection in VNC Manager?

Yes, I can connect to the terminalserver with the regular RDP Client, but if I want to use special feature of metaframe (like mirror a user session), i need to connect with an ica client.

It would be a nice feature.

I was talking to one of your techs about 2 years ago and he said that citrix support was scheduled for release in version 4.
Unless im blind (Which is a possibility) there has been no signs of this feature even being considered to be implemented.

I'm sure that this ability will greatly improve your product as a all-in-one management system.

[v5.0] Registered Computer Filter or Search Needed

I have over 200 Registered devices and it makes it very hard to remember where some servers are located. A filtering or search option should be available to enable finding the device.

A perfect example of how to do this is in Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager's management console and how you can select the branch in the left navigation tree and then enter a string to filter on that will show only those matching devices in the right pane. Perfect solution here.

Could you add the ability for the zoom slider in thumbnails view to zoom in further than the current 256 X 206? This would be very useful in a classroom setting where the current maxim zoom does not let you see enough detail of the monitored computers for certain activities.

Ability to change "Use settings from" in mass

When I copy a group of computer to a different folder, it defaults the "Use settings from:" back to "Parent group folder properties". I would like to select a group of computers, right click and select properties, change the "Use settings from" to "Global settings", click ok and it would make the changes to all computers that I selected.

I'm currently running VNC Mgr v5.0.3.0.

Currrently, the flavor of VNC installed on a PC is displayed in the VNC Mgr console under the VNC distribution column, such as RealVNC or UltraVNC. It would much more useful if the this would include the specific version of VNC as well; for example UtraVNC v1.0.5.6. This would help keep track of systems that either have been updated or need a new version of VNC.

[5.0] Multiple Thumbnals View Tabs

Would it be possible to have more than one Thumbnails View tab? And the ability to open different computer groups/folders to multiple Thumbnails View tabs?

In practice this would allow you to right-click on a computer folder from the tree and click, add to thumbnails view, but do be able to do this with different folders and have them open in different tabs? You could differentiate between wanting to open in a new thumbnails view tab or open in the main thumbnails view tab.

This would be extremely useful in a school setting for monitoring computer labs?

[v5.0] Logged in User - External Tool Variable

I would like to be able to open up the desktop folder of the currently logged in user. (without using the VNC file transfer dialog, as this isn't always available) I've tried creating my own "External Tool" that opens explorer.exe with " \\($SERVER_IP)\c$\documents and settings\($WINDOWS_USER)\Desktop" as an argument. A couple of problems with that. First, it uses my locally logged on username. Second, it is in domain\SAMAccount format. Is it possible to get a variable that pulls the username (without domain) that is currenly logged on to a machine? That would be so useful to me.

[v5.0] Multi threaded server status check

Most IP Scan tools allow the ability to do subnet ping scans using many threads!

This results in MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH faster ping results as you can ping many IP addresses simultaneously.

This should be implemented into VNCM as scanning a DSF can be reaaaaallly slow! :w00t:

For example I use Angry IP Scanner, and I set it to have 256 threads running. It has the ability to probe an entire subnet, resolve the hostname, username, TTL, etc in about 15 seconds.

It can be a little painful waiting for VNCM to do one at a time!

[v4.5] Add column in Computer Manager that shows configured user information

In the computer manager it would be nice to have a column like the Name/Description/Address column that shows the configuration information for the configured user that will be used to logon (news/administrator) to a machine. Also it would be nice to show if the computer config has inherited settings or not.

I have multiple computers with the same name in different groups. If I have connections open to two different systems with the same name it is hard to tell them apart. It would be great to have the option to add the group name as a prefix to the computer name on the connect tab or the separate window connection. e.g. GroupName - SubGroupName - ServerName

In VNC manager I can specify to use RDP or VNC as the default, when double clicking on a registered computer.

This is fine for a lot of cases. But we maintain also our unix boxes and some switches in the list. For these we defined external tools like putty and the web browser. Now it would be very convinient to be able to set these as the default action on double click.

Is this possible in the new version?

Please add a column to show the currently logged in user for a computer without the need to run the CTRL-G command. This would be useful in the dynamic search folder and the static list. We have many occasions when the user ask for support and they have trouble finding the machine name or ip to give us so that we can connect. It would be much easier just to look at the list or find them by user name.

I love SmartCode VNC Server.

One problem I have is the desire to connect to the same server, sometimes in interactive mode, and other times in view only mode. Currently, it is difficult to do so without either creating two server connections or risking triggering input. It would be great to have the option via keystroke/toolbar button/context menu to connect to a VNC server in view-only mode.

I may be missing something, but it seems like you have two options for view-only connections:

1. Setup the server connection as "View only (input ignored)" (must create two separate connections to each server or change the setting each time);
2. Connect in standard input-permitted fashion, then switch to "View Only Mode" via menu or toolbar. This could allow mouse movement or other input to the remote server before the mode is switched.

The ideal solution would be a keystroke/toolbar button/context menu option that would connect in read-only mode. The current "View Only Mode" option could then toggle the modes.

I hope that makes sense.

I've been able to setup VNC Manager to connect to network devices via "External Tools", but it would much much nicer if I do one of the following: Either setup the default connection (on double click) to one of those external tools, or have a URL as a default connection type. Some network devices have special URL requirements, so just hitting port 80 doesn't work 100% of the time. Like we have some NAS units for backup needs. Their URL is port 5000 with specific folders for admin or user connections. like http://nas:5000/admin or something like that. Plus other devices like network printer, and routers all can be easily managed with this tool too. I only hit these devices with I.E. and nothing else so VNC or RDP is not needed for them.

It is possible to store the passwords in the VNCManager config. I have a great many passwords and would really like to store them. It looks like a simple hash in the config if I remember. How about a master password and some real encryption on the stored configs.

I'm just trying out the VNC manager software to replace my current RDP client because of the VNC support. I currently work off a laptop with external displays of varying sizes and resolutions when I'm in the office and off the laptop display when outside of the office.

The program I currently use has the ability to automatically send the screen size to the server when I connect based on the application screen size. If I drag the window to another display and resize the application window and establish a new connection the screen size is automatically set to fit the window.

With SC VNC Manager, RDP connections are set as part of the connection properties and don't auto-adjust when connecting. Is there any way this could be implemented into SC VNC Manager? It would be much easier than modifying the properties of each connection everytime I switch to a different display.

It will be a neat feature to be able to add additional devices as servers, such as firewalls print servers etc. that can be access via browser.

In that way all devices could be stored by company and will integrate the management even more. Everything from one console.

Auto-resize window

I understand there are some technical limitations with the VNC client where you cannot force it to resize itself (without stretching/shrinking) to the VNC client window.

But would it be possible to include an option that will resize the VNC manager window to ensure that the VNC client (or RDP client for that matter) does not need scrollbars to fit the whole remote desktop in ?

It would be great if you had a connection history per each computer and not be able to destroy that history and it would be limited to the max of 30 days and it would over write the new information for the old as the connection keeps going on. It would be great if this was in a text file also.
